Pupils from Durrington High School have been competing at the Regional All England Dance Finals with their extra-curricular dance school. The pupils have to gain a high score at a qualifying festival in order to enter the regional finals and then gain a place with honours to get through to the Grand Finals in August.
Getting through to the Grand Finals is extremely prestigious; the regional finals have large classes (some with over 50 competitors) with 3 adjudicators and often these classes go through to a ‘dance off’ with only the top 3 competitors going through.
Amongst the successes were 12 year old Victoria Hitchens who won the National section with Honours.Antonia Laurella gained gold in her modern duet. Both Victoria and Antonia came second in their modern in a class of 76 competitors (no mean feat amongst such tough competition), the year 8 pair also won their classical quartet.
Glendale Theatre Arts School, where these young people train, won or placed in all of their 7 sections and are through to the grand finals. The school qualified in every section they entered which is an incredible achievement. Dancers in the Glendale groups include the following pupils: Lucy Spiers, Niamh Harland, Yasmine Lowe, Teagan Clubb, Victoria Hitchens, Antonia Laurella, Nick Bryan, Katey Walton, Lily Butler ( also includes ex pupils Charlotte Walford, Dani Hardy, Leia Bone)
Durrington High School wishes their pupils the best of luck in the grand finals in August and can’t wait to hear the results.
