Message from Ms Marooney

Dear Parents / Carers

Thank you for all of your support through what has been overall a highly successful but at times very hard year for us. What this year has done for us is to strengthen ever more our sense of team and community. Two recent whole school events have been so special; Sports Day and our sponsored walk. We saw outstanding performances, amazing teamwork, thought for others and as tutor groups within companies, opportunities for conversations and working together in different ways to usual.

For the staff and I these events, numerous celebration activities and end of year assessments have been so rewarding. Our focus on teaching, learning and leadership training and development is enhancing our work and the opportunity to work with other schools. We launch our ‘Research School’ in September and are excited about the potential this has to enrich our work and further develop the educational experience of your children. Another exciting development in relation to working with other schools will be the Laurels Primary School joining DMAT and working closely with us.

We look forward to seeing Y11 on results day. In relation to retention and recruitment of staff, it is testament to the strength of our team that we welcome our smallest number ever of new teachers in September; four. Two staff Mrs Nixon and Mrs Green retire this summer after more than thirty years each of service to our school. We wish them every happiness. Durrington High School enters our next phase of development next year which is really exciting and I will write to you in September with further details. I finish with a lovely quote from a local resident

‘I’d like to commend you on a fabulously well organised walk your school children did today. My husband and I have just taken our dog on his walk on the exact same route. Your pupils were very well behaved, it looked like they were enjoying it and the effort by the school in planning this must have been tremendous. I hope you raise lots of money for your chosen charities, but more than that you’ve opened up the eyes of our young to the beautiful place we live in, for their wellbeing, health and to respect where they live. Thank you for what you do.’

Thank you once again; we look forward to continuing to work with you next year to help your children be happy and go beyond their best.

Yours sincerely
